Building a Foundation of Trust & Positive Dental Habits
Your child’s oral health is a cornerstone of their overall well-being. Our team is dedicated to creating a positive dental experience for your child from the very first visit. We recognize that visiting the dentist can be a new and potentially intimidating experience for your kids.
That’s why we cultivate a playful atmosphere with bright colours, engaging toys, and a team passionate about building trust and rapport with young patients.
Our team prioritizes gentle care with a clear focus on communication. Contact us to schedule your child’s next dental exam today.
When Should Kids Have Their First Dental Appointment?
Many people think that until you have a full set of teeth, you don’t need to see the dentist, but that’s not true. Your child should see a dentist within 6 months of the debut of their first tooth or once they’ve reached 12 months of age, whichever happens first.
After their first appointment, we like to see kids for a cleaning and an exam every 6 months.
Why Do Kids Need Dental Exams at a Young Age?
You may be wondering why kids need dental exams at such a young age, and there are many different reasons.
Baby Teeth Are Important
Just because your child’s baby teeth aren’t permanent doesn’t mean they don’t need maintenance. Most kids don’t lose all their baby teeth until they’re 12 or 13, so although they may not be permanent, they need to last a long time.
Without treatment, a cavity in a baby tooth can continue to decay, eventually resulting in removal, which could affect how the adult teeth grow.
It’s Never Too Early to Teach Good Oral Hygiene
We don’t just tend to your kids’ teeth—we tend to their minds! Part of our job is to teach your kids how valuable their teeth are and how important it is to care for them.
We’ll make sure your child knows the correct brushing and flossing techniques and what foods or drinks could negatively impact their teeth. Most importantly, we’ll tell them how great they look with a smile on their face.
How to Prepare Your Child for the Dentist
Whether it’s your child’s first time or tenth time, sitting in the dentist’s chair can be nerve-wracking. We’ll do everything we can to make them feel confident and comfortable in our office. Here are a few tips and tricks you can try:
- Play dentist at home! Take turns looking at each other’s teeth, using toothbrushes as pretend instruments.
- Book an appointment for yourself shortly before your child’s. Bring them along so they can see that a dental appointment can be a fun and rewarding experience.
- Tell your kids what to expect. Once it’s a little bit familiar, they can become more comfortable.
- Use strategic timing. You know what time of day your child is calm, hyper, or cranky. Try to book your appointment during a time when they’re most well-rested and easygoing.
Building a Partnership for Your Child’s Oral Health Journey
